Start Here

You do not need to understand the full research framework to enjoy this coffee. Start with the cup. The language is here if you want to go deeper.

How This Works

Each release is a documented coffee batch. Every batch has a roast date, batch data, and a set of phenomena tags — observable behaviors confirmed across multiple roasts.

You can buy a bag and just brew it. Or you can read the batch data, follow the phenomena, and track your own observations over time. Both are valid ways to engage with this system.

Where to Start

If this is your first time: go to First Observation Set. It walks you through what to notice in the cup without requiring any prior knowledge.

If you want to browse releases: go to Releases. Each product page includes batch data, phenomena tags, and brew direction.

If you want to understand the terminology: go to Phenomena. Each term has a plain language summary alongside the research definition.

  • 1. Choose a release

Begin with a currently available Research Release. The release is tied to a roast profile and a lot, not a generic product category.

  • 2. Observe the cup

Notice temperature stages, rest days, sweetness movement, acidity structure, and whether the cup changes from first sip to last.

  • 3. Use the language

Phenomena terms give names to what is already happening in the cup. The Lab maintains the full definitions.
